Staking properties with snow markers has become a significant investment for all snow removal companies. Now, contractors are faced with many sources that they can get their reflective markers and it can be a bit confusing on what they are receiving. Many times customers will call me and tell me they got snow markers for $.50! Once I do the investigating, I realize that they got a hollow snow marker with no tape and no cap or something similar. You need to weigh these 3 factors when your considering getting plain snow markers which do not have tape or cap, or going with the Cadillac snow stake with cap and tape.
1.) Price – Plain driveway stakes obviously have the best pricing, you can get these from $.75-$.99. Snow markers with cap and tape go from $1.04 on up based on quantities. So, if price is a big concern, plain driveway stakes are a lower cost option. Much better than wood!
2.) Aesthetics – The look of the plain snow markers aren’t bad. They are high quality fiberglass with solid color. Mostly inconspicuous but still easy to see. The tape and cap reflective driveway stakes are much better to look at. They look more robust and pronounces.
3.) Functionality – Here’s where there is no comparison. The installation process of plain stakes needs to be a lot more careful to not fray the top of the snow stake. Also, a tool is almost a necessity. This adds a whole other step. Also, when I am speaking with customers, they always tell me they use wood and that they dont want to spend the money, well, wood stakes are NOT reflective at night, neither are plain stakes. No matter how “fluorescent” stakes are, they won’t glow.
Overall, either snow marker will save you a ton of money in property damage, but the way I look at it, if you’re gonna do it, do it right. Call or comment to discuss! 866-938-0922
